In Mid March of 2020 it was announced that Nevada businesses would be required to close their doors due to the Governor's COVID-19 pandemic mandate.
After a sleuth of break-ins occurred in Downtown Las Vegas, area businesses rushed to shutter their doors and windows to protect their investments. As they covered their storefronts with plywood, a community of artists, business owners and even city government came together to create a program of inspirational, provocative, and beautiful art. The goal was to spruce up their closed businesses and to add a little color to one of the darkest times in modern history.
Once erected and promoted, these murals became an instant drive through art gallery that helped inspire and heal the entire Las Vegas community and beyond.
As businesses slowly began to reopen and recognizing the historical significance 'The Covid Murals' were painstakingly collected cataloged and stored, until now.
The Covid Murals are now ready to be displayed to the public, and two years after the mandatory shutdown which was announced in March 2020.
Other cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Paris and many more followed Las Vegas' trend of creating murals over their closed and boarded up businesses - but no other city or collaborative group of businesses had the foresight to collect and bring the boards together in a single space for the public to enjoy.
Local and national media have already taken notice and shown interest in this unique and historic art show.
